Ahrefs's v3 API doesn't consume your subscription quota when the target is ahrefs.com or wordcount.com. We use that to show a live sample without burning the budget. Real DR + top backlinks, pulled from the same endpoints any Ahrefs API customer would use.

What the Domain Score actually measures

We bundle two signals into one number. The first is Open PageRank, a free domain-authority metric that's directionally correlated with Ahrefs DR. The second is AI-crawler + structured-data readiness from our own server-side audit. The second piece is what moves the needle for DR:0 brands competing in AI engines, and it's what most “DR checkers” ignore entirely.

Why we don't show a backlink list

Backlinks require a paid backend (Ahrefs, Moz, DataForSEO). A free tool that pretends to show backlinks usually shows 3 cached examples and hides the real list behind a paywall. We'd rather be honest: this tool focuses on the part of domain readiness you can actually fix this week, which is structural and technical, not backlink-dependent.

The DR:0 playbook

For brand-new domains, the order of operations matters. First, open robots.txt to AI crawlers. Second, ship llms.txt and llms-full.txt. Third, add FAQ JSON-LD on your top 5 pages. Is this the same as Ahrefs Domain Rating (DR)?

No. Ahrefs DR is proprietary and not exposed via free API. This tool uses Open PageRank (free, 1,000 lookups/day) which is directionally correlated with DR but not identical. Roughly: OPR 0-2 = DR:0 to ~15, OPR 3-4 = DR ~25-40, OPR 5-6 = DR ~50-65, OPR 7-8 = DR ~70-85, OPR 9-10 = top of the web.

What's the composite Domain Score 0-100?

A weighted roll-up of two things: (1) the Open PageRank rank, up to 40 of 100 points, and (2) Wysera's own audit of AI-crawler readiness, structured-data breadth, and technical baseline, up to 60 of 100 points. Bands: Strong (80+), Solid (60-79), Emerging (35-59), DR:0 (under 35). When OPR is unavailable, the score is capped at 75 to signal the missing input.

Why doesn't this show my backlink list?

Backlink data requires a paid API (Ahrefs, Moz, DataForSEO). We chose not to ship a free tool that depends on a paid backend. For DR:0 sites the composite Domain Score and the prioritized fixes are more actionable than a partial backlink list anyway — moving the fail checks from red to green typically moves the score 15-30 points within a quarter.

What does the tool actually check?

Open PageRank (when API key is configured). robots.txt accessibility plus AI-crawler policy (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, Applebot-Extended, and others). sitemap.xml presence. llms.txt and llms-full.txt presence. JSON-LD schema types on the homepage. FAQ schema specifically. Open Graph completeness. Mobile viewport. HTTPS. About a dozen checks total.

Is anything stored when I run a check?

No. Each scoring run is stateless. We fetch your domain server-side (8-second timeout per resource), parse the responses in memory, return the JSON, then drop everything. The Open PageRank API call is logged on their side per their terms.

How can I improve my Domain Score?

Ship the fixes the tool surfaces, in order: (1) open robots.txt to AI crawlers, (2) publish llms.txt and llms-full.txt, (3) add 5-8 Q&A pairs as FAQPage JSON-LD on the homepage, (4) fill in missing Open Graph tags, (5) add or expand the sitemap.xml.
