Every launch directory tells you the same three things: it is curated, the links are dofollow, and founders are watching. None of that is checkable from the homepage. What is checkable is the domain itself, and it takes about four minutes.
This is a review of ListBulb, a hand-reviewed SaaS and AI directory, and it is also a worked example of how to judge any of them. The method matters more than the verdict, because there are hundreds of these and you will need to sort them yourself.
The numbers, before anything else#
Measured on 1 September 2026. These move, so treat them as a reading rather than a fact about the site forever.
That is a real domain. For scale, Product Hunt is DR 91 and Peerlist is 58, so ListBulb is sitting in the same band as Peerlist and it is moving up rather than sideways. The traffic figure matters more than the DR: a directory with authority and no visitors gives you a link, while a directory with both gives you a link and a few people who actually arrive.
The four checks#
Is the link dofollow
A nofollow listing still sends people, but it passes no authority. Most directories say dofollow; check one live listing rather than the marketing page.
Does it have validated traffic
DR without traffic is a domain that collected links and no audience. ListBulb reports roughly 2,167 monthly visits and the figure is traffic-validated, which is the version worth trusting.
Is it hand-reviewed
If anything gets listed, the listing means nothing, and Google works that out. ListBulb reviews submissions by hand, which is the difference between a directory and a form.
Where do its own links come from
Look at what links to the directory. If it is only other directories, its authority is circular and will not hold. This is the check almost nobody runs.
On that last check ListBulb is mixed, and it is worth saying plainly. Its strongest inbound links come from other tool directories and DR checkers rather than from press or independent editorial. That is ordinary for this category, it is exactly what the nine-point TrueDR gap is measuring, and it is the reason a directory link is worth having but is not worth much on its own.
One directory link is a rounding error. Fifteen of them, done in a fortnight while your domain is new, is the cheapest authority you will ever buy.
What a listing is actually worth#
Honestly: not much, once. That is true of every directory and it is the thing founders get wrong in both directions. They either dismiss directories entirely, or they submit to one and wonder why nothing happened.
The value is in the aggregate and in the timing. When your domain is new, the scale is at its steepest and cheapest, and a set of listings across established directories can move a brand new site out of the low single digits within days. We wrote up what that looked like for us in why your startup's Domain Rating matters. ListBulb belongs on that list. It does not replace it.
There is also a paid tier, Bulb Boost, starting at around $11 for higher placement. Whether that is worth it depends entirely on whether 2,167 monthly visitors are your buyers. For a developer tool aimed at founders, plausibly. For a med spa booking system, no. The link is the same either way; you are paying for attention, not authority.
The verdict#
Worth an afternoon if your domain is young. A dofollow link from a DR 58 site with real traffic and a human reviewing submissions is a good link by any reasonable standard, and it clears all four checks with one honest caveat about where its own authority comes from. Submit it, then submit to fourteen more, then go and do something that compounds faster.
Frequently asked
What is ListBulb?
ListBulb is a hand-reviewed directory of SaaS and AI tools where founders submit a product for listing. Listings carry a dofollow backlink, there is community voting, and a paid placement called Bulb Boost starts at around $11 for higher visibility. As of 1 September 2026 the domain sits at DR 58 with a TrueDR of 49 and traffic-validated visits of roughly 2,167 a month.
Is a ListBulb listing worth doing?
For a new domain, yes. A dofollow link from a DR 58 site with validated traffic is a good link, and it is the kind of cheap early point that is never available again once your own DR climbs. It will not move your DR on its own. Treat it as one of ten or twenty launches, not as a plan.
How do I tell a good launch directory from a bad one?
Four checks. Is the link dofollow. Does the domain have real, validated traffic rather than only a DR score. Is the listing hand-reviewed or does anything get in. And does the directory's own backlink profile come from real sites or only from other directories. A directory failing the last two is a link farm with a nicer template.
What is the difference between DR and TrueDR?
DR is Ahrefs' measure of raw backlink strength. TrueDR discounts links that come from low-quality or circular sources, so the gap between the two tells you how much of a domain's authority is earned. ListBulb is DR 58 and TrueDR 49; a nine-point gap is normal for a directory, because directories are naturally linked to by other directories.
Do directory backlinks still work in 2026?
The established ones do, for two reasons that have nothing to do with each other. They pass link equity, and they send real referral traffic from people actively comparing tools. What does not work is bulk submission to hundreds of empty directories that exist only to sell links.
